City tightens management of food
safety and hygiene
The HCM City People�s Committee
has ordered competent State agencies and local authorities to focus on
implementing a number of urgent measures to ensure food safety and hygiene in
The first measure is to
strengthen information on qualified and unqualified food processors and products
to raise public awareness on food safety and hygiene.
Second is to
increase the training of food safety and hygiene for civil servants; improve the
efficiency of the State management system on food safety and hygiene, especiallly
the inspectorate; and regularly open training courses on food safety and hygiene
for small-sized food processors.
The departments of
Health, and Science and Technology will prepare the plan to form a
high-quality analysis center of the city, increase the role of the medical
testing center, encourage the establishment of private modern food testing units
and develop a strong food testing system to meet the State management in this
Fourth is to
strongly supervise the abidance of the Health Ministry�s regulations on the
manufacturing, processing and trading of food, especially in producing
vegetables and fruit, raising poultry and cattle slaughtering, and fisheries;
tigthen the trading of food additives and chemicals; re-arrange the food area at
markets; and regularly test food processing at plants inside industrial parks
and processing zones, at schools, markets, supermarkets, tourism sites, hotels,
restaurants and other facilities.
Next is to impose
strict sanctions on violators and define the responsbilities of leaders in case
of food poisoning.
Another measure is
to increase investment, human resources and equipment to meet the city�s basic
demand on controling food safety and hygiene.
