Projects to mark 30th anniversary of South Vietnam’s liberation and national reunification

To mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and of Vietnam’s reunification Ho Chi Minh City plans to implement 11 projects, comprising four cultural projects and seven social projects.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and of Vietnam’s reunification Ho Chi Minh City plans to implement 11 projects, comprising four cultural projects and seven social projects. 

The four cultural projects are under preparation . They are:
+ The project to set up a stele (columns with inscriptions) to commemorate the commandoes who sacrificed their lives in the fight to protect the Rach Chiec Bridge. The mapping out of a feasibility study for this project has already been completed and the project is expected to require VND34.8 billion. However, the city government has yet to make a final decision on the site for the memorial.
+ The project to set up a stele to commemorate the war martyrs at Nga Ba Giong, with an estimated capital of around VND7 billion. This project is being mapped out.
+ The project to build the HCM City Youth Cultural House, with a required capital of VND200 billion. The draft scheme for the project is being submitted to the city government for approval before the project owner launches a design contest.
+ The project to build statue of Monk Thich Quang Duc, with an estimated capital of VND7 billion. A feasibility study for this project is being mapped out.

The seven social projects are as follows:
+ The project to build Thu Thiem Tunnel and East-West Highway, with a total investment capital of VND9,863 billion (US$660.6 million). Work on the tunnel started on January 31.
+ The Thu Thiem Bridge project, with an estimated capital of VND1,099 billion. A technical design for this project is being drafted while the design for the bridge’s piles is being perfected. 
+ The Nguyen Van Cu Bridge project, which has an estimated capital of VND371.1 billion. Construction of the bridge started on March 4.
+ The Truong Chinh Street project, which has a total investment capital of VND398.1 billion. Work on this project started on July 20, 2004.
+ The Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street project, which has an investment capital of VND852.2 billion. Negotiations have been made for the site clearance compensation to start work on this project.
+ The project to maintain and upgrade historic and cultural relics is as follows:
     – A feasibility study is being mapped out for the upgrade of the History Museum, the HCM City Museum, and the President Ho Chi Minh Museum in HCM City.
     – The project to upgrade the Ben Duoc Temple in Cu Chi District is awaiting approval.
     – A feasibility study is being mapped out for the Chien Khu Rung Sac (Sac Forest Base) project.
+ Inaugurating cultural projects as follows:
     – The War Remnants Museum. Work on this project started in 2003 with a disbursed capital of VND4 billion. However, the capital required for this project has increased from VND11.2 billion to VND19.8 billion due to some extra construction items. The Service of Culture and Information is considering readjusting the scale of this project.
     – A feasibility study is being mapped out for the project to build a monument to commemorate 32 conscripted laborers who sacrificed their lives in Vinh Loc Commune, Binh Chanh District in 1968.
     – Work has been started on the project to set up stelae to commemorate war martyrs at 44 wards and villages.
     – A feasibility study is being mapped out for the construction of a cultural symbol at the gate of the city’s Tan Son Nhat Airport.
