HCM City prepares for the 30th anniversary of Reunification Day with a multitude of festival activities

In HCM City, a festival starting on April 29 and lasting for four days is being prepared for the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s Reunification Day. Complex programs will bring together professional artistic troupes and public participants in makeshift stages set up in many places throughout the city.

Chao! tries here to highlight some of the most interesting.

On April 29, the opening program is held at the park in front of the Municipal Theater (Opera House) in District 1. It begins with a drum and percussion show to welcome guests. This is to be followed by variety shows performed by domestic and foreign artistic troupes.

An international market will be held at Section C of Ba Muoi Thang Tu (April 30) Park in front of the Reunification Palace. It will display and sell Vietnamese and foreign handicrafts and souvenirs. There will be performances depicting activities at Vietnamese craft villages.

There is also a floating market at Van Thanh Resort, which introduces characteristics of floating markets in the southern area.

On April 30, a traditional artistic-cultural festival is held in April 30 Park. The park is divided into four sections.

• Section A (the corner of Han Thuyen–Nam Ky Khoi Nghia streets): Traditional songs and dances performed by local and foreign troupes and artists.

• Section B (the corner of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia-Alexandre de Rhodes streets): Performances depicting traditional festivals of Vietnamese peoples. A show introducing Vietnamese costumes.

• Section C (the corner of Han Thuyen Street-Cong Xa Paris Square): Introduction of Vietnamese and foreign cuisine.

An artistic fireworks show is scheduled for 9 p.m., April 30.

On May 1, an ao dai show by designer Minh Hanh will be held at the park in front of the Municipal Theater.

Throughout the four-day festival, motorcades of decorated cars will run on the main streets of the city.

There are also artistic and photo exhibitions on the streets and water sport performances on Saigon River.

The closing ceremony is held at the corner of Le Duan and Pasteur streets.
