Quiet and peaceful Pho Quang Pagoda

Quiet and peaceful Pho Quang Pag

Quiet and peaceful Pho Quang Pagoda

Situated at 64/3 Pho Quang Street, Precinct 2, Tan Binh District, near the end of a path, Pho Quang Pagoda is associated with the rise and fall of the national history; and attracts lots of tourists with beautiful and peaceful landscapes.

Out of the crowded and noisy daily life of the city, Pho Quang Pagoda looks like a heaven filled with mystery, bringing about a soft and gentle feeling  in anyone  on their first step into it.

Pho Quang Pagoda was started by the superior Buddhist monk Nguyen Viet Tao (religious name Thanh Canh) in 1952 with simple and rudimentary architecture. It was rebuilt in 1960 with many modern features designed by architect Nguyen Ngoc Ban, according to the superior Buddhist monk Thich Nhu Niem, the pagodas present head.

Since 1999, Pho Quang Pagoda has come under the management of the Buddhism Association of Ho Chi Minh City headed by the superior Buddhist monk Thich Nhu Niem. Through rise and fall, Pho Quang Pagoda still remains with its primitive picturesque beauty from a little curved roof shining with sunlight in the afternoon and a rising wind that makes the scene pleasant and incredible. The pagodas campus is now more than 6,000m2, shaded with rows of trees in its front yard and main palace.

In front, situated within the three-door temple gate decorated in the style of a bee-tower and tile-roof is the 1.2 ton Great Bell, which was cast in 1962. Stepping over the gate, two East and West rows of houses, which have been lying peacefully since the time immemorial, appear to the eyes. The path leading into the main palace is shaded by trees. The main palace is seriously and solemnly arranged with a big and majestic statue of Buddha Amitabha  nearly 7m high and over 5m wide engraved by Phuc Dien. In the middleare ten great 0.6 meter halls made of wood in 1950. Its inner walls are decorated with large-frame-pictures describing legends concerning the tenets of the Buddhist faith. The main palace is very wide and pleasant and majestic. The architecture is quite unique with characteristics of the old Northern pagodas.

One of the features that makes Pho Quang Pagoda attractive to tourists is the peace and calm uncommon in the city center crowded with people and vehicles. The pagodas old gate is standing here as it used to be, together with curved roofs amid green trees. Standing here at any time, you can free your soul and enjoy birds singing, and thus leave all daily worries and troubles behind. The beauty of Pho Quang Pagoda is in harmony with the surrounding landscape. That is why Pho Quang greets a large number of tourists coming here to worship, visit and release themselves among the airy and cool spaces.
