HCM City expects to earn US$4.5 billion from hi-tech

HCM City will upgrade the Saigon High Tech Park (SHTP) to a hi-tech foreign-invested center which is expected to generate a production value of US$4.5 billion and earn an export revenue of US$3.5 billion by 2010.

This is part of an action plan on the development of SHTP for the 2006-2010 period which was just issued by the HCM City Peoples Committee.

To achieve this target, the city will carry out five programs: improving State management in the hi-tech sector, training human resources, attracting foreign investment, strengthening science and technology capacity, boosting research and development activities and compiling a legal framework for SHTP.

By 2010, SHTP targets to attract 10 foreign-invested companies in the fields of semi-conductor, information and communication technology, new materials, nano technology, precision engineering, biotechnology and new energy.

It aims to lure 50 scientists at the post-graduate level for its five key laboratories and develop high technologies to serve production and trading activities.

The citys Chairman will be responsible for monitoring and directing the implementation of the action plan. The executive agency is the SHTP Authority in collaboration with relevant State agencies.
