HCM City leader vows support for ties with Japan

Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, is ready to offer all possible support for Japanese experts to return to work after the COVID-19 pandemic is under control, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong.

During a reception for new Japanese Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Watanabe Nobuhiro on September 7, Phong expressed his belief that the Japanese official will offer many effective initiatives to enhance ties between Vietnam and Japan, as well as between Ho Chi Minh City and Japanese localities in particular.

He said the number of Japanese firms in the city is on the rise, adding that the city regards foreign investors’ success as its own.

The leader committed the best support for the Japanese Consulate General to boost bilateral ties, and vowed to work closely with Japanese investors to speed up the construction of metro line No.1 and projects using Japan’s official development assistance.

Nobuhiro, for his part, said the rising number of Japanese investors in the city is vivid evidence of growing ties between Japan  and Vietnam, and between Japan and HCM City in particular.

Expressing his impression on the construction of metro line No.1, he affirmed that Japan will work with the city to ensure its progress. He also suggested the city hold the seventh Vietnam – Japan festival after the pandemic is under control so as to boost the friendship between the two countries' people.
