Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong receives CEO of World Bank

On the morning of March 24, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received CEO of World Bank (WB) Kristalina I. Georgieva on a courtesy working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong congratulated Mrs. Kristalina I. Georgieva being appointed as CEO of WB and expressed his hope that she will gain success in her new position.



Mr. Phong said WB has been implementing many projects, including 3 typical projects: Nhieu Loc Thi Nge, urban upgrading, water loss reduction. These projects have helped HCMC address its serious problems like traffic, flooding, environment, climate change adaptation, etc. and improve living standards of local citizens.


The city’s leaders respect for WB’s contributions to the city, Mr. Phong expressed his hope that WB will continue giving more support for the city to carry out environmental sanitary projects Phase 2, flood risk management project and green traffic development project.



Mr. Phong suggested that WB will consider giving financial support for Metro Line No 6 project, upgrading and renovating Xom Cui and Bau Trau Canals. These projects are a part of 7 breakthrough programs of the city. Mr. Phong made his commitment to accompany and closely cooperate with WB as well as effectively use the loans from WB to implement the above projects to improve living quality for local people and to improve the city’s environment.



For his part, Mrs. Kristalina I. Georgieva expressed her impression on the role, position and development of HCMC in the past time. She said HCMC is an important partner of WB, saying WB will continue supporting the city to implement important projects including project of enhancing public finance management capability for the city to better manage its urban development and improve its competitiveness.
