American jazz quartet tours Vietnam in March

The American jazz quartet Adam Klipple and Drive-By Leslie will perform at a public concert at the HCM City Conservatory in the evening of March 16 as part of their Vietnam tour.

Later, they will perform in the central coastal city Nha Trang on March 19, the northern Quang Ninh Province on March 21 and Hanoi on March 22-23.

The band will also conduct workshops on the history of jazz at the HCM City Conservatory and Nha Trang College of Culture, Arts, and Tourism. Joining the band in their workshops and performances is the talented Vietnamese saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan.

The bands trip to Vietnam is part of an Asia tour organized by the U.S. Department of State and the internationally renowned jazz Lincoln Center.

The group members are Adam Klipple (keyboard), David Phelps (guitar), Willard Dyson (drum) and David Ambrosio (bass).

The music of Adam Klipple & Drive-By Leslie is groove-influenced, as they have developed a sound that transcends genres. The band skillfully fuses funk, world music allusions, dissonant harmonies, and jazzy improvisations in a way that is both expansive and accessible and also explores many styles of electric jazz.

In HCM City, tickets costing VND100,000 and VND150,000 are available at the HCM City Conservatory, 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1, tel: (08) 824 3774 or 0909 881 162.
