Vietnam�s largest contemporary art show to open in HCM
An art project named Saigon Open City (SOC), the
largest contemporary art exhibition in Vietnam so far, will open in HCM City
late this year.
The SOC project will last through 2008 and comprise
a series of cultural and art performances will take place all over the country,
from Can Tho and HCM City in the south to Danang in the central region and Hanoi
City in the north.
It includes three major art exhibitions on the
contemporary art developments in Vietnam and the world.
The first exhibition dubbed Liberation will kick off
in HCM City on November 25 with the participation of more than 50 local and
foreign artists. The event is an opportunity for Vietnamese artists to exchange
views with world big names such as Jean Luc Godard of France, Joseph Beuys of
Germany and Chris Burden of the United States.
The other exhibitions, named "Reunification" and
"Reconstruction", are also under preparations in an effort to make contemporary
art more popular.
The project is jointly organized by the British
Council, the Goethe Institute of Germany, the Vietnam-Denmark Cultural Fund and
the French Consulate General in HCM City.
